TRAVELLING WELL – FEEDBACK FROM ‘DOWN UNDER’

GOING ‘HOME’
by Christina Kavli, Norwegian RN from Oslo

After spending a year at university in Australia as part of a student exchange program, I returned to Norway in late 2000 to complete my degree.

But just as nursing got into my blood, so too did Adelaide. And I knew its allure would eventually get me. It’s just the right size, the people are welcoming, the lifestyle easygoing, the weather superb and the setting – flanked by the hills and the sea – just great.

I returned in June 2002 on an NAA-sponsored one-year working visa and was placed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). I couldn’t have asked for more – NAA and the QEH did everything to assist with my settling in and familiarising myself with a new, slightly different way of doing things. NAA guarantees me the shifts stipulated by my work permit but provides the option of additional shifts should I so desire.

All of which means I enjoy regular and stimulating work and good pay – and remain in control, balancing my career with my social life.

If the first few months back in Adelaide are any indication of what lies ahead, I’ll certainly be looking to renew my work visa when it expires in June 2003.

It’s the job that works for you!
